The Theta Chapter of Chi Phi

In 1867 an abortive effort was made by Fred Humphreys and William Sutphen of Upsilon (Hobart) to organize a chapter at Rensselaer at Troy, New York, but it was ten years before their dream was realized. William A. Vincent and William Barret Ridgely were close friends and classmates. Vincent entered Ohio Wesleyan and joined Chi Phi (later becoming Grand Alpha), and Ridgley entered Rensselaer.

The Mission of Chi Phi

Chi Phi was founded as a social organization; a group of like-minded individuals formed Chi Phi in order to promote the values they held close to their soul. These values can best be summarized as Truth, Honesty, and Personal Integrity. The promotion of these three values is what guides this fraternity.

National history

The Chi Phi Society

It was on December 24, 1824, that the first Chi Phi Society was born at Princeton University, then known as the College of New Jersey. This date marks the formation of the first Greek social fraternity, making Chi Phi the oldest social fraternity in existence today. This was started by Robert Baird and is now referred to as the Princeton Order of Chi Phi. This society continued until 1825 when this branch ceased to be active.
